This oddly cute-looking creature is often seen with a permanent smile on its face.

The Axolotl is frequently referred to as the Mexican Walking Fish, though it is not actually a fish but a type of salamander.

Although, unlike other amphibians, it never undergoes the change from aquatic to air-breathing creature.

The Axolotl has amazing regenerative abilities - if injured, even to the point of losing a body part, the Axolotl will heal readily and even regenerate lost bits, including its brain and heart cells!

You can keep an Axolotl as a pet, and if properly cared for they can be expected to live up to 10-15 years!

Their skin and gills are very sensitive and quite soft, so handling is not recommended.
